The KDOT bulldozers could begin work in less than two months, before the students return in large numbers. Now is the time to plan our Arab Spring-or rather-Indian Summer! An indigenous-led uprising. Cairo had Tahrir Square, Ankara has Kizilay Square, but here in Kansas RESISTANCE persists in the Wakarusa Wetlands.

Kansas Dept of Transportation has plans to drop a highway through the eastern Kansas wetlands to connect Lawrence, Topeka and Kansas City, which I-70 already provides.

The wetland of the Wakarusa River Valley once covered 17,800 acres. Now only 670 acres are left and 573 of those are under the control of Baker University. We must keep in mind that wetlands are extremely valuable in nature; they actas a buffer zone between land and water. Water picks up dirt and sediment as it travels down the watershed to the rivers and often carries high levels of pollutants form agricultural of urban runoff. In the natural world there are no sewage treatment plants to clean water; nature had her own method for water purification and it called a wetland. Wetlands purify water, provide flood storage, cycle nutrients, provide habitat for fish and wildlife [1]

“Regardless of our opinion towards the fascists, South Side ARA won’t be applauding this sentence. Groups like the SPLC may wish for prison time, but unlike them we don’t see prison as the answer. Nor do we see all prisoners as scum. We wish not to have other inmates subjected to Moudry antics. We don’t wish for our friends, family, and comrades who are incarcerated, to be hit in the head with locks by white supremacist. We would rather see Moudry on the streets receiving “justice” at the hands of anti-fascists. It is true that we did not prevent this arson attempt but neither did the state. Instead, the state has allowed Moudry the ability to organize with white supremacy gangs behind the wall. On the streets of Chicago, at this point in time he wouldn’t be so capable.”

Native Women’s Society of the Great Plains created this map of KXL temporary construction workers’ camps with reports of rapes and sex trafficking.

“A map of Keystone XL Transcanada’s oil line plan which includes designation areas for temporary man camps. One man camp is planned near Cheyenne Eagle Butte and another near Rosebud Sioux Tribe. Man camps can house up to 800 men. In the North Dakota oil patch, where thousands live in man camps, there has been an increase of sexual assaults, sex trafficking and violence. Don’t be silent on this issue, share and promote awareness on what these man camps are and can produce.”

Lakota legal fund for T.R. Mckenzie:

Activist T.R. McKenzie was arrested this morning prior to his scheduled appearance at a press conference at the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. McKenzie was planning to speak about the most recent in a long history of documented code violations and human rights abuses committed by alcohol sellers in Whiteclay, Nebraska.

McKenzie was held for six hours at the Lancaster County Jail on charges of theft, criminal mischief, third degree assault, and terroristic threats, none of which have been documented or substantiated. He was released on bond the same day as his arrest. This arrest comes in the wake of several weeks of protests and encampments on the outskirts of Whiteclay.

T.R. will need support to continue fighting these charges and standing strong with Lakota allies! Please donate anything you can to help cover legal expenses.

“Most of those sleeping at the protest camp are women and children,” McKenzie said shortly after his release. “We are all working to draw attention to the devastation caused to the Lakota people by the sale of alcohol in Whiteclay.”

Whiteclay has a population of 14, yet 4 liquor stores in the town sell 12,500 cans of beer each day. It has been documented that the stores sell to bootleggers, intoxicated people, and minors, as well as routinely trade beer for sexual favors. The tiny, unincorporated town lies less than 300 feet from the border of the Pine Ridge Reservation, where the sale and consumption of alcohol is prohibited.

March Against Monsanto, a global day of action to raise awareness of the multifaceted crimes against nature and ecocide Monsanto has committed, including genetically-modified foods, wholesale killing of non-invasive insect species with pesticides, domination of the seed industry, and their purchasing of politicians.

Monsanto is a seed and pesticide monopoly based in St Louis MO

A week before the day of action, one or a few reactionary cowboy liberals sent out a press release, without international organizers’ consensus, stating, “We would like to remind everyone that MAM does not support violence or aggression towards property or people. Please be warned if you are an instigator you will not be tolerated at our march and we our organizers will ask you to stop or leave. If you continue we ourselves will politely and calmly ask a Police officer to remove you.”

Soon after this breach of trust, a call and response went out asking for further anarchist participation in marches. A couple days later, a retraction of the unagreed upon presser was issued from international organizers of MAM—one from Missouri, one from Greece, and passed consensus within the organizing body.

The Kansas City march against Monsanto estimates varied between 2000 from an organizer headcount to 500 from the police reporting to press.

Organizers say the fast food industry now employs twice as many Detroit-area workers as the city’s iconic auto industry. Fast food and retail workers in St. Louis, Missouri, walked off the job Wednesday in the third major strike of its kind in recent weeks. The walkout came after a citywide fast food and retail workers strike in New York on April 4th and another in Chicago on April 24.

Workers at Jimmy John’s in the Soulard neighborhood were the first to walk out in a surprise strike, and employees at a McDonald’s in north county followed Wednesday evening. Organizers anticipated that workers at at least thirty restaurants, including Wendy’s, Hardee’s and Domino’s, would join in additional walkouts on Thursday. Like strikers in New York and Chicago, the St. Louis workers are calling for a living wage of $15 an hour and the right to form a union without retaliation. The current hourly minimum wage in Missouri is $7.35.

(Reuters) - Exxon Mobil confirmed on Wednesday that an oil spill occurred Tuesday on its Pegasus crude pipeline in Ripley County, Missouri - the same line that ruptured thousands of barrels of oil into an Arkansas neighborhood at the end of March.

An Exxon spokeswoman said a resident notified the company of oil staining on the surface near the pipeline on Tuesday. The cleanup of the one-barrel leak was near completion, she said.

The pipeline was already out of service following a spill in Mayflower, Arkansas, on March 29, Exxon said.

Exxon CARES, y’all.
